Today’s episode, Some thoughts about Cessationism and how it could become “Limit-ism”, another way to say putting God in a box-ism.
Cessationism is a theological doctrine-
– belief that the need for certain spiritual gifts, like prophecy and tongues, ceased once the Scriptures were complete.
– belief that signs, wonders, and miracles were primarily used to authenticate the message of the early apostles and that their frequency diminished after the apostolic age.
– belief that after the foundation of the church was laid by the apostles and prophets that some of the extraordinary gifts they possessed were no longer needed.
– belief that the primary purpose of speaking in tongues was to serve as a sign for unbelievers, and as the gospel spread and the church grew, this sign became less necessary.
The verses below are used to support their beliefs, but I truly believe that they misunderstand/misinterpret and miss the mark by ultimately limiting God and what He still calls the Church to be doing and the equiping He's provided and still wants to provide through the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 13:8-10, Hebrews 2:3-4, Ephesians 2:20, 1 Corinthians 14:22
I pray that this episode blesses you! Keep growing-on.
